BTW Equipment Supports Commissioning of Power Project in Uruguay

Recently, the Chamberlain Substation of the Uruguay 500 kV Transmission and Transformation Ring Network Closure Project was officially commissioned. All 18 reactors developed by BTW for this substation passed on-site tests and were successfully energized, providing critical equipment support for the project's commissioning.

The Uruguay 500 kV Transmission and Transformation Ring Network Closure Project is a model project of energy cooperation between China and Uruguay under the Belt and Road Initiative. Upon completion, it will resolve the bottleneck of renewable energy integration in northern Uruguay, significantly enhance the reliability and resilience of the power grid, and enable cross-border interconnection with Argentina and Brazil. BTW has secured a total supply contract for 29 reactors for this project, including 18 reactors for the Chamberlain Substation and 11 reactors for the Melo Substation. The Chamberlain Substation is a key node in the ring network project. Once operational, it will effectively connect the northern and central power grids of Uruguay, ultimately forming a 500 kV national ring network.

The 500 kV reactors developed by BTW incorporate multiple nationally patented technologies and possess complete independent intellectual property rights. The products feature low losses, low noise, a compact footprint, and stable operation, with key performance indicators surpassing international standards. They are perfectly suited to Uruguay's local hot and humid climatic conditions, and the tank explosion-proof performance meets IEEE standard requirements. The secondary wiring of the reactors in operation and standby phases features an innovative quick-plug connector structure, enabling rapid interchange between the two phases and effectively improving equipment operation and maintenance efficiency as well as the grid's emergency response capability.
